Top Reasons Dr Qasim Akinreti Should be Re-elected Lagos Chairman

Dr Qasim Akinreti, chairman, Lagos state council of the Nigeria Union on Journalists, NUJ, Tuesday, officially launched his re-election campaign.
The event, which attracted journalists and other critical stakeholders in the media within and outside Lagos, was held at the Lagos NUJ secretariat at Iyalla, street, in Alausa, Ikeja.
Speaking at the event, Dr Akinreti, a PhD holder in Mass Communication, expressed his profound gratitude to journalists in Lagos for the supports they extended to his team in the last three years to deliver on his promises.
He however appealed to NUJ members to vote for his team during the forth-coming election billed to hold next month, so as to move the union to the next positive level.
The next level for the Akinreti-led exco is to consolidate on the gains recorded in his first term on: welfare, recovery/security of assets, accountability, and enhanced capacity building/ training, if voted into power.
It could be recalled that three years ago, Dr Akinreti and his team promised to restore the integrity on the union, ensures accountability in financial and other dealings, provide welfare empowerment as well as capacity building/training.
Three years down the line, the chairman in his re-election pamphlet distributed to the journalists and other stakeholders stated that during his first term, the council:
Resuscitates the NUJ Fair Press Magazine
Sponsored the training of 200 journalists within and outside Nigeria
Built a befitting Lagos NUJ secretariat from the N25million donation by the Lagos State Government
Pay hospital bills, school fees, sponsor marriages, obituaries, give out COVID-19 palliatives, sponsor graduations, pay for surgeries, buy drugs, etc, for deserving members.
Re-allocated Abarenland/Pen Jewel plots of land to 1700 deserving members.
Purchase plots of land in Ogun and Oyo State for agricultural purposes.
Retrieved the NUJ Lighthouse.
Ensured the operation of joint alert account system with payment of vouchers introduced.
Began the processing of the NUJ/Badagry Community Radio project.
Invested in treasury bills on behalf of the council.
Pay dividends to Lagos NUJ Chapels
Dr Akinreti explained that with his re-election, these achievements could further be consolidated and the union and its members moved to the next positive levels in the next three years.
