SOCU – SCTU CAPACITY ASSESSMENT MEETING BY NASSCO/SAVE THE CHILDREN TEAM

…as Special Adviser to EKSG on Social Investment charges staff to address lapses and align with Governor Fayemi’s vision

The Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Social Investment, Barrister Victor Olumuyiwa Kolade has rallied officers of the State Cash Transfer Unit to address issues bothering on the components of Social Security Scheme in the State.

The Special Adviser, while speaking to the leadership of the State Cash Transfer Unit (SCTU) in a meeting organised to assess the institutional capacity of State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU) -State Cash Transfer Unit (SCTU) staff for the delivery of Social Protection outcomes in Ekiti State, noted that Social Investment is one of the major areas of focus as regards to the Five Pillars of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration.

“We must continue to work assiduously to improve Social Investment Programme (SIP) in Ekiti for the collective good of the people of the State. I will also want to remind us that this workshop is to critically assess our performance and know how to strategise our line of action for improvement,”

he said.

While speaking, a Consultant with Save the Children on National Social Safety net Programme NASSP, SOCU-SCTU Institutional Capacity Assessment, Dr Ojukwu Mark Ojukwu aligned with the submissions of Barrister Kolade and identified major areas for immediate attention namely; Leadership, Service delivery and Budgeting.

He noted that based on recent findings, Ekiti State scores 57.1 percent on goals performance, adding that the government need to commit more political will to improve.

“It’s been such an eventful meeting, while we have made tremendous progress in ascertaining the issues bothering the deliverables on Social Investment in the State.

“This is a learning process to strengthen the Social Security Systems in the State. For now, we are still at the point of data gathering but from researched evidences, there are some areas that the State have measured up but since it’s a systemic thing, there are still areas for improvement.

“These areas have been aptly highlighted in our report which will be made available to stakeholders alike. We have also made recommendations to the SOCU-SCTU staff on areas they can immediately work on to improve service delivery, whether systemic or technical gaps identified,” he ended.

Head of Ekiti State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr Gabriel Adeokin thanked the Special Adviser for his continued support for the development of the SCTU in Ekiti State. He also assured that recommendations drawn from the meeting will be duly implemented thereafter.
