On Friday, Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello said that abducted students and teachers of the Government Science College ,Kagara had not yet been released by their abductors.
In the early hours of Wednesday, bandits stormed the school, killing one student and capturing 27 students, three teachers and 12 family members.
On Friday, rumors were rife that after prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi met with the robbers, the kidnappers had released the students and others.
But Bello denounced the liberation rumors, claiming that the students and others were still held hostage.
However, the governor said that the government was in the final step of talks with the bandits.
He vowed that they would soon release the victims.
