Off course you are familiar with story-lines on fire outbreaks from the conventional and social media platforms across the globe, daily.
One of such headlines or captions could read: ‘Fire outbreak kills 24 in Lagos’. However, research has shown that fire outbreak in itself do not kill.
But…What is the but here?, you ask. Please read on to get the gist eventually.
A research, whose findings was published in Safety & Security Magazine, owned by the late Dr Patrick Keku, a security expert in Lagos, outlined some of the causes of dead and destruction arising from fire incidents, all over the world.
Toxic gases, smoke and super-heated air arising from fire outbreak causes dead, not the fire itself, the magazine stated.
The findings further explained that fire outbreak travels at 19 feet per second and occurs frequently in the night and early morning.
But, during harmattan and dry season, there are indications that fire outbreaks resulting in the dead of people and destruction of properties in their numbers may occur.
Therefore, families and business owners must create fire escape routes in their offices and business points, and also install smoke detectors.
