LEGISLATIVE AGENDA
Together with our accomplished indigenes who are subject matter specialists, we will review gaps in the legal and regulatory framework touching on the following focus areas to determine bills or amendments to extant laws we will champion.
• Healthcare
• Education
• Gender Equality
• Social Protection
• Security
• Foreign Policy
HEALTHCARE
AkinọmọAkin is passionate about healthcare. My central vision for healthcare is to ensure no one is left behind, especially vulnerable segments in the last mile of society.
• Infrastructure: we will lobby government agencies, NGOs, indigenes in the diaspora, etc., to secure resources to bridge health infrastructure deficits in Ikole and Oye Local Governments – in all the primary health centres and the general hospitals.
• Health Missions / Surgical Festivals: we will hold periodic health missions and surgical festivals.
• Public Health Education: we will champion public health education campaigns to achieve behavioural modifications that would help prevent lifestyle diseases and early discovery of these diseases for intervention.
• Address Negative Cultural Practices: We will champion campaigns against harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation and other forms of Gender-Based Violence.
• Menstrual Health Packs: We will establish a pad bank so that as many young female constituents as possible can receive menstrual hygiene packages to keep them healthy in school and at work during their periods.
• Infant and Maternal Health Kits: we will provide support for pregnant women, new mothers, and their newborn children, to drastically reduce infant and maternal mortality rates and ensure their well-being.
• Speciality Care: We will help vulnerable segments such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, children with learning difficulties, etc.
• Motivation of Health Workers: We will provide avenues to incentivise health workers to remain in our hospitals and give their best in providing care to constituents. Education Access to qualitative education is a leveller that ensures every child is given the opportunity to achieve greatness and the full expression of his/her God-given talents, regardless of the economic circumstances of the family.
EDUCATION:
• Infrastructure: we will lobby government agencies, NGOs, indigenes in the diaspora, and friends to secure resources to bridge infrastructure deficits in our primary and secondary educational institutions in Ikole and Oye local governments areas.
• School Uniforms and Shoes: we will mobilise resources to ensure as many of our vulnerable children as possible are provided school uniforms and shoes and eliminate other barriers preventing children from going to school.
• Special Education: we will explore avenues to ensure children with special needs have access to an education.
• Bursary: We will provide bursaries for students in higher institutions, to ease the burden of financing their education.
• Competitions: We will facilitate essay competitions and other avenues to encourage academic excellence in the constituency.
• Teachers’ Motivation: We will provide avenues to encourage and motivate our teachers, so they can give their best in training the future generation of leaders.
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT:
The lack of economic opportunities is one of the drivers of crime and other social issues. Everyone deserves the opportunity to have a decent job or the enablement to pursue a trade or business.
Jobs! Jobs! Jobs! With AkinọmọAkin as your representative, I will fight to attract jobs for constituents. With our job seekers’ database, we will be ready to respond to openings in both government agencies and private organisations run by accomplished constituents and match them with qualified job seekers. We will also work with an advisory committee of senior civil servants at the federal and state levels who are indigenes of the constituency, to identify Ministries/Departments/Agencies where the Federal Character principle has not favoured our constituency, and lobby to redress this by securing jobs for our youth.
• Small Business Grants: We will provide small business grants for as many entrepreneurs, artisans, and traders as possible in the constituency, to empower them to earn a decent living in dignity.
• Equipment: We will work with the local branches of unions such as transport unions, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and other such unions to determine their trade equipment needs, and empower as many members as possible.
• Local Content: We will ensure all constituency projects utilise local contractors and suppliers as much as possible.
• Farmers’ Support Programmes: We will create avenues to support our farmers to be more productive and encourage value addition within the constituency.
• Industries: We will work with stakeholders in the constituency to establish employment-generating industries.
• Creative Industries: We will incentivise producers and content creators to come and use locations and talent within the constituency, in order to create jobs and spotlight our communities in the creative industry.
INFRASTRUCTURE:
AkinọmọAkin has demonstrated the capacity to mobilise stakeholders to attract infrastructural projects to the constituency. He has been commissioning projects even without holding an elective office. When we earn your mandate by February 2023, we will start by carrying out an extensive baseline study of the infrastructure gaps in the constituency, with input from the 40 community town unions, to ensure we have a strategy document that would be the basis of our efforts to mobilise all stakeholders and start working for you from Day 1!
• Health and Education Infrastructure: As stated earlier, we will work to identify gaps in Health and Education infrastructure and equipment in the constituency and mobilise resources to bridge these gaps so that our people can access qualitative healthcare and education.
• Roads Infrastructure: We will lobby the relevant agencies of the Federal and State governments to attract beneficial road infrastructure to the constituency, to improve the living conditions and commercial activities of our people.
• Power: We will take the lead in seeking solutions to issues of power supply at the community level and provide streetlights for as many underserved communities as possible.
• Commercial Infrastructure: We will work to provide critical infrastructure in our markets and other areas of commercial activities, to encourage productivity and safety of our people.
• Sports and Recreational Infrastructure: Every child has the right to play, and even adults should be encouraged to engage in sports and recreational activities to remain sound in mind and body. Sports and other recreational infrastructural are also crucial to discovering and promoting sporting talents and ensuring every constituent can reach their full potential. AkinọmọAkin will work to attract sporting and recreational infrastructure to the constituency.
SOCIAL SECURITY:
AkinọmọAkin is clear about the need to mobilise all stakeholders to ensure no one is left behind. The welfare of vulnerable members of society will be prioritised.
• Welfare for the Vulnerable: The welfare of widows, the elderly, orphans, and other vulnerable segments of society will be prioritised.
• Food Bank: We will establish a food bank to cater to as many vulnerable members of society as possible.
• Support for Persons with Disabilities: We will provide support for differently abled constituents to empower them to live full and productive lives in society.
SECURITY
Our constituency is seriously affected by security challenges that need urgent attention. Insecurity in our community affects market women and farmers the most. Farmers run the risk of losing their lives on the way to, or while on their farms. Market women experience enormous difficulty in transporting their goods to the consumers because many transportation companies have refused to ply some roads in our constituency as frequently as needed due to insecurity. This obstructs the free flow of goods from the farm to the market and drives up the cost of food, threatening our food security. The menace of kidnapping in the constituency also needs to be addressed decisively.
• As a diligent representative, I will champion high-level cooperation amongst security agencies of the federal and state governments, as well as local security stakeholders, towards securing the lives and property of our people.
• I will build on ongoing efforts by multiple stakeholders to ensure we have a military base stationed within the constituency.
• On a broader national level, I will champion improved welfare for security personnel, and for the families left behind by our fallen heroes.
• I will also champion the decentralization of our security sector architecture.
