Ondo Election: Victory of Akeredolu, evidence of people’s confidence in the leadership of APC- Sanwo-Olu
Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor, says the re-election of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu is a proof of the confidence of citizens across the country in the leadership of the All Progressive Congress ( APC).
While speaking with journalists at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammad Airport, Sanwo-Olu said this on his arrival in Lagos from Ondo State, where he had led his party, APC, to win the governor’s election as chairman of the party’s campaign.
Sanwo-Olu was the chairman of the APC Campaign Council, created by the national leadership of the party to lead Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN)’s second term campaign.
With 292,830 votes, APC won the governorship race, beating the nearest opponent, the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), which garnered 195,780 votes.
He said the success of his job in Ondo State was a pledge to his political party that was fulfilled.
According to him, the APC candidate in the election deserved the victory, having achieved most of his campaign promises in the first term.
”I am personally excited, as Chairman of the APC Campaign Council in the Ondo State election, that the candidate who emerged victorious in the election is our candidate.
Having visited the state before the election, I can confirm that Arakunrin Akeredolu performed very well and that he is working for the people to deserve this victory at the moment.
People call Akeredolu a governor of talk-and-do, meaning whatever he promises, he delivers, whether in Ondo State in terms of infrastructure or general growth.
Our candidate was an easier commodity to sell in the election, based on his track record in administration.
So, we had a strong fight during the exercise. At the end of the day, the people of Ondo talked via the ballot and talked well,’ he said.
Sanwo-Olu said the result of the election represented the will of the Ondo people, who were the sole winner that emerged from the election.
He said that APC went into the contest with the intention to unite and not to divide the citizens of the state, as the party saw the result as ”no victor, no vanquished”.
President Muhammadu Buhari was commended by the governor for providing the requisite leadership and creating an environment for the people to choose their leaders without violence.
He said that the exercise was essentially open , fair and reliable, despite pockets of skirmishes that tainted the process.
Sanwo-Olu also commended the APC national leadership and governors who endorsed the second term attempt to return Akeredolu.
”The victory in Ondo State is a demonstration that people still believe in the leadership being given by our party across the world.
”We recognize the results of the election with modesty. “This victory is not only credited to one person, but to all the members of the APC campaign team that I have been chosen to lead,” he said.
