The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has paraded two young men suspected of having been involved in different criminal acts, especially the theft of cell phones inside Jalingo, the capital of the state of Taraba.

Briefing reporters at the command headquarters in Jalingo, Commander, NSCDC, Taraba State Command, Edwin Chukwudi Egwuja, said the suspects, identified as Safianu Ahmed Dan-Anti, 20, and Farison Hoseah, of 22 years old, were arrested at dawn on December 30. 2022 at the scene of an accident around NATO Junction within the city of Jalingo.

The commander speaking through the command public relations officer (PRO), SC Samila Iliya, explained that an accident had occurred at the NATO crossing in which a pedestrian was struck by a moving vehicle.
He said the accident sparked protests from locals in the area when they discovered the driver was unable to stop to examine the lifeless body of the victim who was hit or offer condolences to the mourners.
“In the aired drama, the suspects arrived in numbers with weapons and began vandalizing cars, snatching phones and wallets from protesters and other people around the scene.
“One of our retired commanders who was walking the road was also a victim of the heinous act. They took his phone and collected the money from him. They did the same with a retired army captain who was also driving on the road.
“Our men were called along with men from the Nigerian Army and they immediately went into action to disperse the goons, but prior to that, they had operated for eight hours from 8pm to 1am before they were successfully dispersed that day.
“They ran out of luck as we were able to use our smart unit to track down these two suspects via phone that they took from our retired Commander and arrested them on December 30, 2022.
“Although their cohorts are now on the loose, we hope to catch them all as soon as possible and get them on the reserve,” he added.
NSCDC Taraba State Command
The PRO revealed that the NSCDC Taraba State Command had previously arrested other criminals over the festive period, including the case of a road safety officer who was attacked along with his younger sister by a similar gang in Angwan Magami, Jalingo, where their phones were taken. and large amount of money collected from them.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Safianu Ahmed Dan-Anti, who was arrested on the retired commander’s phone, admitted to committing the crime, while the other, Farison Hoseah, insisted he had only been a victim of circumstance.
“I am from Nasarao, when we heard that a vehicle killed someone at the NATO crossing, we rushed to go and see things for ourselves. Arriving there, we saw a huge crowd protesting the murder of his relative, I just joined the crowd and moved with a stick in hand. I didn’t steal anything, I didn’t commit any crime,” Farison insisted.
