‘My Fears for the Forthcoming ENDSARS Protest By Revolution Now’ – CLO Chairman

COMRADE KENNY ABIOLA BAKARE, chairman, Lagos state chapter of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, in this exclusive interview with EMMANUEL UDOM, spoke on his fears over the planned protest by members of the Revolution Now, the position of the police in Lagos on the planned protest and what should be done about it.

Revolution Now is planning another protest October 20 to shut down Lagos, Nigeria. What is your take on it?

Well, I heard the news and must say with all honesty that there is nothing wrong with protest as it is legal and enshrined in our constitution.

But, I know that police should be informed about any protest so that the protesters are protected and shield from violence, bloodbath and thugs or area boys stopped from infiltrating the protest.

I remember when we at CLO staged a peaceful protest in Abuja. We approached the FCT Police Command and had a meeting with the police where we were asked about the nature of the protest, the objective and the number of protesters expected to gather for the protest.

You see, police cannot disrupt any protest, when due process have been followed, even as the law enforcement agencies, have the capacity to prevent infiltrators from hijacking genuine protest.

So, are you saying Revolution Now did not formally inform the police ahead of the forthcoming protest?

I really do not know. But, What I do advice my fellow comrades at Revolution Now is that they should bring the police into their arraignments in their best interests and that of the entire Nation and ensure their leadership structure is known and visible again in their best interest and that of the Nation.

What do you mean leadership structure known?

Revolution Now, missed the point during their last protest as some of did not know who actually the leaders of the group were. That was their greatest mistakes. But, this time around, if they do the right thing the police will protect and not compel to tear gas them.
