Meeting with FG on fuel Hike: Organized Labour walks out

On Sunday, Organized Labour left a meeting with the Federal Government about the recent rise in fuel prices and electricity tariffs.
The conference was said to be about five minutes old before a walk out was staged by Organized Labour, which included the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.
The federal government in attendance includes ; Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment; Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour; Timiprye Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum; Goddy Agba, Minister of State for Power; and Boss Mustapha, Secretary of State.

Quadri Olaleye, president of TUC, told Channels TV that the federal government was deceptive, playing in the gallery and painting organized labor in a bad light in front of civil servants and the public.

Its deputy president, Najeem Yasin, was representing the Nigerian Labour Congress.

This meeting wasn’t going to be as routine, according to him because Labour had seen the government’s hypocrisy in putting them at stake.
He said they were taking them on a ride that couldn’t continue.
“We’ve been in the negotiation process for over three months now. And they made an announcement to increase the price of fuel again. And no other person but the NNPC. When was the authority granted to NNPC to lift PMS prices? This is impermissible.

“The agenda for meetings is not well prioritised. And we are leaving the meeting because of that. We’re not going to continue we’re going to go back to our organs, and we’re going to come back to you in the next line of action,’ he stated.

We thought that the item of change in PMS, having been mentioned at all as an additional item, would have pleased everyone according to Minister of Labour and Employment, Ngige.
