Lagos: Police Knocks-Out Suspected Cultists, Rapists, Robbers, Yahoo-Yahoo Boys At Mounted Troop Barracks
By Emmanuel Udom
The police in Lagos seem to be on the offensive on suspected cultists, rapists, robbers and yahoo-yahoo boys are presently in trouble.
Our correspondent, who visited Mounted Troop Police Barracks, located along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja, Lagos, today, observed that bulldozers and caterpillars and other equipment have moved into the barracks on a destruction mission.
It was further observed that most of the makeshift shops, houses, stalls, etc, where items like local herbal concoctions, cigarettes, Indian hemp, alcoholic drinks, as well as food and other items were being sold were demolished in their numbers.
Some of the affected people whose properties were demolished were seen packing some of their properties they could lay their hands upon, as at the time of filling this report.
However, sources at the barracks, who spoke off records with our correspondent lamented that it has come to the attention of the police that some civilians, possibly encouraged by some police officers were either using their shops, stalls, etc, as selling points for illicit drugs and drinks, or actually meeting at the place to commit other criminal atrocities, after smoking and drinking.
But, Nura Kasimu, officer-in-charge of the barracks in a directive dated January 20, 2022, which posted at strategic positions at the entrance wall to the barrack, stated that the move was to sanitize the barracks against criminal element, warning police officers resident at the barracks to keep closer taps on their children and wards so as stop them from indulging in criminal activities.
