The 20 Local Government Councils and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State will hold elections for chairman, vice chairman, and councillors in July 2021.
The chairperson of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Justice Ayotunde Phillips (rtd), declared this today.
The LASIEC is the body in charge of electoral management and administration under the law. The commission, according to Justice Phillips, is committed to holding a free, equal, reliable, and inclusive election. She stated that the legislative notice would be issued as soon as possible.
According to LASIEC sources, the election will most likely take place in mid-July. Former governor Akinwunmi Ambode swore in the new chairmen for a four-year term on July 25, 2017.
Their term is set to end in July of this year.
The declaration of the upcoming election by LASIEC comes as the state’s political behemoths gathered at the Lagos House, Marina, for a meeting.
According to a notice sent out by APC Lagos chairman Alhaji Tunde Balogun and Governor’s Advisory Council secretary Alhaji Mutiu Are, the meeting was called by APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
