Husband Could Rape his Wife – Hon. Tobun

A legislator representing Epe 1 in Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, has revealed that a husband can rape his wife, Tobun made the submission in his office in an exclusive interview following a motion passed by the assembly on rape during the plenary on Monday. He explained that the fact that she is your wife does not allow you to force her for sexual affair.
He expressed worry that the woman can get injured in the cause of forcing her to bed for mating. Tobun added that if the woman is not happy, she will not give the best on bed. He advised that if the wife is not in the mood, her husband must let her rest, saying that forcing her may result to her death.
He narrated further, “this is time for sober reflection, and we should turn a new leaf of life, government wants to curb excesses of life. We should not take stay at home order to commit rape”.
On nude shows, Tobun said one should not take it as a criteria or encouragement to move into committing rape. However, Lagos House of Assembly has passed a motion moved by Hon. McCauley, on prohibition of rape. She said that nobody in his right sense should rape a woman.
She advocated that religious leaders should do more moral education in Churches and teachers in schools. She advised parents to take responsibility of their children and also advised that parents should not live their children to any person that they do not trust. Hon. Alli McCauley warned that any parent found shirking their responsibility in monitoring their children should be punished
Also speaking, Hon. Rotimi Olowo said rape is a felony, saying that apart from jail sentence, rapist should be exposed to shame and community exposure ridiculing him. Also speaking, the Majority Leader Hon. Sanni Agunbiade commended Lagos assembly for their foresight. He said the Assembly had made punishment for rape to be a life sentence.
He referred to Kaduna where a man was arrested for rape and latter granted bail and the convict repeated the offense in another area. Hon. Agunbiade called for speedy prosecution of rape cases. He lamented why some parents rape their daughters. The Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in his submission opined that Attorney General cannot dictate the speed of rape cases, saying that the judiciary should deal with the issue of rape.
Obasa added that Commissioner for Women Affairs should ensure public campaign against rape cases. He appealed to parents and guardians to protect their children and educate them on their movement with males. Hon. Obasa suggested that there should be punishment for careless parents.
