Monday, 22, this year, was the day thousands of Gokada riders, popularly known. G-Pilot, stormed the Tinubu Close head office of the company in Ilupeju, Lagos, to register their dissatisfactions over the manner the management of the company was handling commission and other issues.
Our correspondent, who monitored the protest observed that as early as 7. 00 am, the protesters, well kitted arrived the vicinity of the close with their bikes.
They were spotted where they parked their bikes along, Coker Road, Tinubu Close, Association Avenue, Egbeyemi Street, etc, all in Ilupeju, discussing freely on their plights
One of the protesters, who identified himself as Babalola, said his colleagues are simply pissed off with the manner Fahim Saleh, an Indian and chief executive officer of Gokada was running the company.
Babalola wondered why a N3500 commission should be deducted, Monday-to-Sunday from riders whether or not they make such money, daily.
On his part, Monday Akpan, another, rider or G-Pilot, explained that for every order, the company has been deducting 10 percent from the money they make, daily.
If you make N1000, you are expected to pay N100 to the company and this is flat rate, he said.
One of the riders, who spoke off record lamented that the failure on the part of the riders to pay the money, their app could be blocked with no explanation made by the management of the company.
Attempt by our correspondent to speak with CEO of the company on the issues raised by the riders, was blocked by the Nigerian Legion security operatives, who were station at the entry and exist gates to the company.
But, as at 7.15 p.m, Monday when our correspondent left the scene of the protest, most of the protesters said the 10 percent commission has been reversed based on the pressure exerted by them.
The riders however wondered why the commission should be reversed while the daily payment was increased from N3500 to over N400, insisting that they are prepared to go the whole hug in their peaceful protest, until the injustice is redress.
Recall that potential riders are expected to first, download the Gokada app here: https://linktr.ee/Gokada, sign up as a new user and get verified.
When the rider is fully on board on the app, he is to fill his pickup and drop off locations and the estimate for the trip will show up and the person will then confirm the order.
