FG Introduces Rotavirus Vaccine for Children

Lagos state government in collaboration with Lagos state primary health care board held a stakeholders sanitization meeting in partnership with the media on the 16th of November, 2023 at LCCI (chambers of commerce) Alausa Ikeja Lagos.
The sanitization meeting was to introduce a new vaccine which is known as the rotavirus vaccine.
The vaccine, which is to prevent Rotavirus in infants and toddlers. Rotavirus is said not to have a permanent cure but however can be prevented through administering the vaccine.
Rotavirus is an infection that causes diarrhoeal diseases in children it’s symptoms ranges from diarrhea, fever, vomiting, dehydration and the likes.
It can kill a child within 48 hours. Children from age zero to five years are at risk in contacting the virus. Children under two are badly infected.

Lagos state primary health care board Urged Participants to help sensitize their community and the society at large on the need to stop spreading rumors on the negative effects of vaccines on children.
Further stating how rare it is for children to react badly to vaccines and however if they do it is usually mild and subsides 12 hours after being administered.
The vaccine, was Flagged off on the 25th of November 2022 at Oshodi local government. Children under 2 years are expected to take it in three batches, which is 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks. It is an Oral vaccine containing 5 drops in total.
It is only limited to children under this age due to the availability of the vaccine. However, in the nearest future it will be extended to Children above that age.
