FCT Election:AMAC conducts project tour for chairmanship candidates

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Transition Committee, has conducted a tour on its on-going projects to challenge the various political parties chairmanship candidates on their level of preparedness to become chairman.

The tour which was carried out on Monday in Abuja was also an on-the-spot assessment of the level of progress achieved on the on-going projects in the area council.

Mr Ibrahim Tanko, Chairman of the committee, while conducting them round the different projects, said it was part of its mandates to familiarize the candidates with the projects so as to encourage continuity in governance.

“The Candido-led administration was committed to ensuring that the residents enjoyed the dividends of democracy.

“The brain behind this is simple, it is to make democracy at work by ensuring that the candidates of other political parties are part of what has happened during his administration.

“This is to make it open for everyone to see and that is why we are carrying all of them along, to prepare their minds.

“This is because before now, some people who contest for positions in AMAC don’t know some villages or ward in the area council.

“But with this committee, it will prepare their minds to know what they are coming to meet, as well as the bounties and challenges they are coming to meet.

“That is why this committee was constituted early enough to start work,” he said.

He added that as part of its work plan, the candidates would also be taken to all the council’s institutions, completed and as well as on-going projects.

Tanko noted that this would help the candidates prepare their blueprints to accommodate the established projects.

Mr Obaje David, Group Managing Director, AMAC Investment and Property Development Company, said that the institution was established to improve the internally generated revenue of the area council.

“One of the area we are looking at is the housing and the real sector, which involves low-cost housing projects for low income earners and the middle class.

“So we are in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank to bring in some projects like block of flats that people can easily afford,” he said.

David said that the company was also focusing on waste-wealth projects, markets development, agricultural sector, among others to ensure that over dependence on allocations is reduced.

The team also visited the AMAC Community Radio Station, Karashi, AMAC Kurudu Relocation Market, AMAC Microfinance Bank, among others.

Candidates of the various political parties in attendance includes; African Action Congress (AAC), Action Alliance (AA), All Progressive Party (APP), All Progressives Congress (APC), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Young Peoples Party (YPP) among others.
