By Sunday Onyewonsa
Popular ex-militants of the Niger Delta extraction have warned Senator Kashim Shettkma over the spate of attacks on the former two-term governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, whose convoy was attacked penultimate week while he ran around for his late father’s burial, Alhaji Modu Sheriff, who was the Galadima of Modu community, north east Nigeria.
Leading the pack of the Coalition of Niger Delta ex-militants who condemned in strong terms the spate of viscious attacks and campaign of calumny against the former governor in a state the groups said he practically thrust to unimaginable height, were the national President, National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, NCNDEA Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a Akpodoro and the Coordinator, Niger Delta Youth Council, NDYC, Engnr Jator Abido.
The Coalition made this known in a statement jointly written and issued in Portharcout, the Rivers State capital, Tuesday noting that the flag flew by the enemies of Alhaji Shariff has been short down by the excellent result emanating from the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC with a negative result for the former governor and all his family members and aides as against the positive for COVID-19 result speculated by the camp of his alleged enemies.
Recall that, the former governor was attacked by yet to be identified by hoodlums in company with his family members and aides. Three of his security details were killed during the onslaught against him.
The Coalition is of the opinion that the security agencies should go beyond the periphery of hounding those behind the dastardly and condmnable attack on the convoy of Alhaji Shriff and prod into developments thereafter.
Additionally, the Colition want the investigators to focus its searchlight on a Senator who was at a time the godson of the former Governor Shriff, Kashim Shetimma, who they said Sheriff made his successor in the office but as a “man lacking in good conscience” he has turned around to become a rebel against his erstwhile ‘political master.’
Speaking on behalf of the group is an avowed supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Akpodoro who pointed at the disdain and scorn with which Shettima has been parading himself against his godfather, Sheriff noting that it was crystal clear that Sheriff was a huge threat to Shettima who he alleged wants to remove him from political limelight through blackmail and other means including sniffing life out of him.
According to the Coalition, Shriff has paid his dues in political arena which Akpodoro added has placed him in a position of envy for those who lack the integrity, wisdom, general acceptability and popularity in Borno political space saying the group hold that Senator in contempt.
Senator Shettima the group noted should be thoroughly investigated by the Inspector General of Police, Adamu the Director General of the Department of State Security, Yusuf Bichi to know why he probably wants his godfather dead.
The Coalition pointed at the the blackmail the followed the exit of the bereaved former governor from Abuja in the process of mourning his father the mandatory test for the Coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19 by all members of Sheriff’s family which turned out to be negative.
Pointedly, the Coalition sent a strong warning to Senator Shettima on his “dirty politica” while warning that Shetykma should desist forthwith from politics of bitterness in the north east noting that the Boko insurgency was enough for the nation grapple with.
For a man who rose in his political career to becoming the national Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the Akpodoro-led Coalition noted that, Sheriff was bigger than who Shettima can engage in what it described as unhealthy political rivalry within the state and the broad national political spectrum warning him that should anything untoward happens to the former PDP Chairman, Nigerians shall hold him responsible.
Akpodoro who doubles as the national leader of Urhobo Youth Forum for Change, UYFC noted that the warning to Shettima became imperative on account of his subterranean moves against his erstwhile godfather in the name political supremacy asking him to give account of his stewardship to the people of Borno State rather than hounding his godfather saying, “we hold Senator Shettima in contempt for all the untoward developments against Alhaji Sheriff, members of his family and his aides among whom lost their lives in the bloody attack on the former PDP Chair.
“We are not mindful of the fact that a paperweight former governor is fighting tooth and nail to remain relevant in the scheme of things the in the insurgent ravaged north-east state of Borno.
Incidentally, Shettima is swimming against the tide because the good people of Borno know who they love without blemish and that person is Alhaji Sheriff.” Akpodoro an angry former warlord stated noting that as time goes on, if the Senator does not back down in his “dirty political moves” he would have the Coalition to beat.
