#Endswat ignored: The SWAT team starts training on Monday, IGP Adamu says.

IGP Inspector General Mohammed Adamu said his new Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team would begin training on Monday, ignoring the outcry of nationwide demonstrations and # EndSARS and # EndSWAT hashtags in online world.
The announcement was made by Adamu in a statement by Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Mba on Sunday.
The new Police Tactical Team, Adamu said, will work under very high professional and ethical standards, the rule of law, and the best international police practices.
In achieving its goals, the NPF has announced that it is collaborating with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other tea training growth partners.
Training will take place at the Training School of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Ila Oragun, Osun State, and the Training School of the PMF, Ende Hills, Nasarawa State.
The IGP reiterated that no member of the current Tactical Team would be a member of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
He notes that the officers selected for the training are youthful, intelligent and vibrant officers who have acquired not less than seven (7) years working experience with clean service records.
According to him, the SWAT recruits have no pending disciplinary matters, no record of violation of rights of citizens or misuse of firearms – and are physically fit to withstand the rigour of SWAT Training and Operations.
‘The officers chosen shall be subjected to physical fitness examinations, medical and toxicological screening, etc., and those found to be unacceptable shall be released,’ said the IGP.
‘The ICRC, an independent international human rights and humanitarian assistance organization with more than 71 years of experience in humanitarian services and institutional support and development, will provide the human rights elements of the training program.me with tools and materials.
“ Specifically, they will handle topics touching on humanitarian laws, police conduct in conflict situation, human rights norm particularly in the use of force and weapons, arrest and detention amongst others.
“Other aspects of the training curriculum will include modern-day police principles and values, Intelligence-led policing, Operation planning / Tactical decision making processes, Hostage rescue techniques and operation, arms handling, first aid / basic life saving skills, stress / fear management, police-citizens interactions and emotional intelligence etc.
“The training modules will be handled by other carefully selected development partners, security experts as well as veterans from the civil society and human rights community.
In order to ensure the diligent and timely delivery of the Tactical Team, the IGP charges the training coordinators.
He observes that, in view of the need to fill the voids generated by the dissolution of the defunct SARS, especially during the ‘EMBER month’ historically characterized by upsurges in armed robbery and other violent crimes in the country, the need for the immediate establishment of a new Tactical Team is.
Therefore, the IGP seeks citizens’ support in the continuing development push for a new and revamped Nigerian Police Force.
