Driver, trader in court for allegedly absconding with dairy products worth N6.1m

The police on Friday arraigned a 35-year-old old driver, Kehinde Badmus in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, Lagos, for allegedly absconding with his employer’s dairy products worth N6. 1 million.
The police also charged Damian Tochukwu, a 30-year-old trader, with receiving the stolen products.
The defendants whose residential addresses were not provided are charged with three counts of conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen items.
Also, Court remands 7 men for allegedly stealing 300 bags of fertilizer worth N2m.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that admus, the company driver, stole one carton of peak milk 24, two cartons of imported peak milk 48, six cartons of peak baby milk, one carton of three crowns.
Other stolen items are; two cartons of frisgold rice tin 12, 15 cartons of three crown milk, six cartons of friso gold, 60 cartons of ”my boy Eldorin” and 240 cartons of peak powder, among others.
Unah told the court that the defendants committed the offence with others still at large on Jan. 17, in Sango Market, Pen Cinema, Agege, a Lagos suburb.
The prosecutor submitted that Tochukwu allegedly received 60 cartons ”my boy eldorin”, 50 cartons of 123 peak milk, 240 cartons of peak tin and 30 cartons of 123 peak gum powder, worth N5. 5 million.
He alleged that Badmus diverted the goods, abandoned the truck and disappeared to an unknown location.
Chief Magistrate A.A. Fashola admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Fashola ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos state government and have their addresses verified by the court.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until March 30 for mention.
