COVID-19: 20 Nigerian doctors dead within a week

Job Enema Amodu, FCT NMA Chairman, says 20 doctors killed by COVID-19 via their patients. this occurs as infected patients did not reveal their status, no less than 20 Nigerian medical doctors died within one week of COVID-19.

Dr. Job Enema Amodu, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Abuja, spoke at a briefing in Abuja this Friday. He said there were casualties reported throughout the nation. In December, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control announced a total of 70 deaths linked to COVID-19.

To avoid exposing doctors and other health staff to the possibility of infection with the disease, Amodu urged patients visiting clinics and hospitals to report their true health status.

For those of us in the health sector, in the last week alone, we have lost quite a few of our colleagues. We have lost no less than 20 doctors nationally in the past week.
We also want to take advantage of this opportunity to speak to our patients; please oblige us when you come to us in hospitals, in clinics.
“Wear a mask. Tell us the truth about your previous medical condition and don’t hold back any details,’ he added.

“I’m the chairman of NMA, FCT, and by the special grace of God, I’m standing here today as a survivor because I saw a patient I didn’t know had COVID-19 unintentionally, and she didn’t tell me, and she knew that.

“I was exposed, I caught the virus, I developed symptoms, but my colleagues rallied around me through the grace of God and I survived,” he revealed.

This second wave is so overwhelming; this second wave is more devastating, and it will probably be because a lot of people have returned to the way things are done.
“They thought the virus was over, that it had come, and that it was gone, and that they had let their guards down.”
