Club Vows to Ensure Welfare of Drivers in Nigeria

Drivers’ Welfare Club of Nigeria (DWCN), yesterday in Ikorodu, Lagos, vowed to ensure the safety of all private and commercial drivers across the federation, before, during and after festivities.
Jemine Ogbemi, chairman of the club dropped this hint during a crucial meeting with private and commercial drivers drawn from some states across the federation.
Speaking at the meeting, Ogbemi, said that “our association’s main objective is to create a formidable forum for all drivers in the country and ensure a good sustainable welfare packages for them”.
According to him, all over the federation, drivers regardless of their profession or vocation are involved in road accidents, daily and some could sustain injuries or even die, living their loved ones to suffer.
Therefore, our club intends to provide various welfare packages like access to free health care, good insurance scheme that would cover the drivers and five members of his or her family at any good hospital in any of the country.
Also, we shall ensure that drivers who lost their lives or are partially or permanently disabled through road accidents shall be entitled to life insurance cover, he said.
In a similar vein, the DWCN leader has urged government at various levels in the federation to rescue private and commercial drivers from multiple taxes imposed on them by various tax and revenue collecting agencies. He also called on government and law enforcement agencies to place some illegal revenue collectors, who are touts under close watch with the intention of checkmating their illegal activities, while the police and other security agents should be empowered and equipped to ensure that our roads are safe.
