Border reopening: Recommendation by Presidential committee
Following the recommendation of a presidential committee on the matter, Nigeria is expected to re-open its land borders with neighboring West African countries.
Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, spoke in Abuja on Wednesday.
In August 2019, the country closed its borders to curb the illicit importation from West Africa which includes ;drugs, small arms and agricultural products into the country.
Ahmed, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja, suggested that land borders would soon be re-opened.
According to her, the presidential committee set up on the issue has completed its work and has recommended that the borders be reopened.
The minister claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari would soon recieve the report from the committee.
The president is expected to make a formal announcement declaring the opening of the borders.
