Asuu to Edo govt: pay our outstanding salaries of four month

The Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma Branch of the Academic Workers Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on the State Government of Edo to intervene and address the crisis of non-payment of staff salaries at the university.

Dr. Monday Igbafen, University Branch Chairman of ASUU, disclosed how members of the university’s staff suffered as a result of four months of non-payment of their salaries.

A statement he released in Benin stated: “We call on the Edo State Government to intervene urgently in the university salary payment crisis.”

“This is to prevent the continuation of the current national university strike despite the final national-level resolution of the strike.”

He said that he and his colleagues were worried about the continued silence of the state government on the matter.

Igbafen advised that the salary crisis in the university should be sorted out during the time of nationwide strike, so that students can resume when the strike was called off.

In its reaction, the Edo State Government declined to owe salaries and emoluments to anyone through the Special Advisor to the Governor on Media and Communication Policy, Mr Crusoe Osagie.

Osagie said that with its responsibilities to all cadres of employees and public officers, the state government was up to date.

Osagie said The state government has never reneged on its duties to pay employees and other staff members their due wages and salaries.”
