AMAC chairman presents N10.576bn budget for 2022

The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Abdullahi Candido, has presented a budget of N10.576 billion for 2022.

Candido on Thursday in Abuja said that the figure represented a nominal increase of 3.72 per cent over the 2021 budget.

He said the budget was made up of N4.337 billion recurrent expenditure, representing 41.01 per cent and N6.239 billion capital expenditure, representing 58.99 per cent.

According to him, the personnel cost is N2.75 billion, representing 63.49 per cent, while overhead cost is N1.58 billion representing 36.51 per cent.

He explained that the budget adopted the participatory budgeting process through community needs assessment and PAIRWISE ranking method as articulated by the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

Candido also said that the budget which adopted zero based budgeting approach, was a product of collaborative effort of stakeholders, including the legislative, executive and civil society organisations within and outside the country.

The chairman said that the budget tagged “Budget of Transition”, was borne out of his administration’s desire to cement his achievements while providing a smooth take-off plan for the next administration.

He added that the thrust of the 2022 budget would be on completion of many ongoing projects, across the twelve wards of the area council.

The Speaker of the AMAC legislative council, Mr Abubakar Baushe, commended the chairman on the budget and promised to expedite action on its passage before the end of Jan. 2022.
