Afenifere concerns about killings in Ondo state
Reacting to the development in Ondo State, especially the assassination of the monarch, Afenifere said it is time for President Muhammadu Buhari to stand up and protect Nigeria. In a quote, its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, said the shrinking of Nigeria’s governable and safe room shrank further with Adeusi’s brutal murder.
The Afenifere said that this horrific murder was coming as Afenifere was still smarting about the brutal murder of Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere’s chief, for which some Fulani herdsmen were currently on trial.
Afenifere claimed that the police were unable to address other multiple murders across Yorubaland and that it had reached a point where only very prominent killings are recorded in a failed state in this state of utter insecurity.
“The killing of any citizen worries us, how much more a first-class monarch. We ask the police to fish out the killers of Olufon as it is one murder too many and utter failure and lack of integrity by the security system in Nigeria to protect lives and property which is the first duty of any responsible government.
“In the apparent festering of insecurity which now has a very conducive atmosphere in Nigeria, we are fed up with the daily sucking of our people’s blood across Nigeria,” it said.
Concerned stakeholders claim that if the government and security agents do not take immediate measures to tackle state insecurity, Ondo may be overrun by herdsmen, kidnappers and robbers. They contend that to curb these rising crimes, Amotekun must be strengthened.
